I’m so sorry you went through this. Something very similar happened to me between 2021 and 2022 because of my extremely toxic ex-boyfriend. I spent thousands of dollars on psychics, and honestly, I’m still embarrassed when I think about it.
At my lowest point, I was manipulated by a local psychic here in Florida. She convinced me to come to her house and bring jewelry my mom had given me because she claimed it was “cursed.” Looking back, I’m genuinely shocked I fell for it. I truly believe she was trying to rob me. The second I got home, reality hit me. I stopped responding to her messages, and eventually had to block her because she kept texting me saying I was cursed and would end up alone forever unless I paid her to remove it. It was completely predatory.
After that experience, I took a break from psychics for a few years. Ironically, my ex did come back into my life several times during that period, but by then I had completely fallen out of love with him. Thank God.
Recently I found myself getting a few readings on Keen again. I do believe genuine psychics exist, but I also believe they’re incredibly rare. My mom grew up with one who guided our family for years. She was an elderly woman who lived deep in the Amazon rainforest near my hometown in Colombia. She never advertised, never tried to scare people, and was known simply because she was genuinely gifted. She never even charged anyone. The payment was a donation. Experiences like that are why I haven’t completely dismissed spirituality.
That said, I honestly think 99.9% of psychics today are scammers or, at best, people who are very good at reading human behavior. I do think a small number of people are genuinely intuitive and able to pick up on things they shouldn’t reasonably know, but they are few and far between.
These days, if I decide to try someone new, I limit myself to a three-minute call. The second they start talking about curses, soulmates who need expensive cleansings, or any kind of fairy tale designed to keep me on the phone, I hang up. I’ve learned the hard way that fear and ilusion is their biggest sales tactic.
At this point, I only read with two advisors because they’ve earned my trust over time by being consistently accurate, even when what they told me wasn’t what I wanted to hear. In fact, sometimes I’m almost scared to contact them because deep down, none of us actually wants to hear painful truths. We’d rather hear comforting lies.
QOC18 is one of those readers. She has never tried to string me along. If she’s finished answering your question, she’ll end the chat herself instead of finding reasons to keep you spending money. She’s direct, honest, and she’s probably my most trusted advisor. The other reader I use is a bit more detailed, but what’s interesting is that their readings always align despite having completely different reading styles.
Now, I believe I should only spend around $30-40 on a psychic every once in a while. If I ever feel the urge to keep getting readings, I honestly just come on this forum and read about other people’s experiences with the readers I’m curious about. It kind of satisfies that craving without me actually spending money. I don’t go ahead and get readings with all these new people anymore. I stick to my two trusted readers and, like I said, maybe every once in a while I’ll do a quick three-minute call with someone new if I’m genuinely curious.
