Parasocial Predictions: When Psychic Readings Become One-Sided Relationships

Hey guys,
disclaimer: this post isn't to attack anyone, with that being said I think often times a lot of us must take a step back and realize that we do not know these psychics. It's one thing to be obsessed with readings but it's another to be obsessed with the reader. Let's please remember that these people do not know us. We might feel the reading is very touching and personal but for them often times we are another person on the phone and the 100th person for the day. On to the next once the timer runs out. We are not their only client.

I realized this when I was younger, I called a psychic A LOT. One day she asked my name and I excitedly stated "it's me!" and she went "who is me"...another time she forgot as a whole that we'd read hundreds of times before. Even at that young age I realized, they take on a range of people and do not form emotional attachments as some of us may because this is a job for them. Yes some may be nicer and come off more sincere than others but at the end of the day would they give you a free reading simply because you guys are such great friends? If the answer is no then I think we really gotta take a step back.
Would they go to bat to defend you to another stranger ? No? Okay then maybe take a step back.

Arguing on behalf of psychics is absurd, what works for one may not work for the other. This forum is for everyone to voice their feedback, the good, the bad, the ugly. (within reason)

In addition, constantly being stuck on one psychic and flooding the forum about them is another moment to consider stepping back. I am not saying to not post, as I said this is what this forum is about. What I am saying is these psychics are not the end all be all. You've navigated life before them and as hard as it may seem you can navigate life without them...or just find another good reader. Again its one thing to be attached to readings but please don't get attached to a random stranger over the phone whose collecting your money and can disappear at the drop of a dime. Again this is not to attack anyone, we are a community and the difference between this forum and the other one is night and day. That's to say that I think we should be unified with each other rather than being unified with these psychics.

I really appreciate this perspective. It’s such an important reminder that while readings can feel deeply personal and meaningful, the relationship is still professional on the other end. That doesn’t invalidate anyone’s experience, but it does help to keep things grounded.

I also agree that this space should allow honest feedback — good and bad — without anyone feeling the need to defend or attack. At the end of the day, we’re here to support each other, not create loyalty to any one reader.

I second this!  My father passed away recently and gave me some welcome distractions from the forum being down again.

  I agree that in the end, you ultimately have to make YOU your own foundation.  People, forums, psychics and strangers come and go in our lives.  We cannot connect to them tightly but can only connect to Spirit tightly as Spirit is ever present.  And the Spirit lives within YOU.
